Overview

cPanel, Inc. supplies iOS® and Android™ applications (apps) that allow you to use cPanel's Web Disk feature on your mobile device. The Web Disk utility allows you to manage and manipulate files on your cPanel account across multiple devices (for example, your computer, mobile device, or certain types of software). Web Disk's more-familiar interface makes file management tasks easier for users to complete.

Set up Web Disk

Before you can use the Web Disk app to manipulate files, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Log in to your cPanel account and perform one of the following actions:

    • Use cPanel's Web Disk interface (cPanel >> Home >> Files >> Web Disk) to create a Web Disk account.
    • Use cPanel's User Manager interface (cPanel >> Home >> Preferences >> User Manager) to create a Subaccount with Web Disk access.
  2. Download and install the Web Disk app.

  3. Set up and connect to your Web Disk account in the app.

Add and manage account connections

You can configure and use multiple Web Disk accounts from multiple servers within the same app.

Add an account connection

To add a new account connection, perform the following steps:

  1. Tap the plus icon ( for iOS or  for Android). A new interface will appear.
  2. Enter the appropriate information or select the desired option for each of the following settings:

    The server's hostname or IP address.

    Note:

    While you can also include the WebDAV port number, the app does not require it, because it automatically adds the correct port number.

    SSLSSL or non-SSL
    • iOS — If you do not wish to use SSL encryption for connections to this account, set the SSL toggle to Off. This toggle defaults to On.
    • Android — Select SSL to enable SSL encryption for connections to the account, or select non-SSL to disable SSL-encrypted connections.
    UsernameUsernameThe Subaccount or Web Disk account username.
    PasswordPasswordThe Subaccount or Web Disk account password.
    Sort Method(Not available on Android.)Tap to view the Default Sort Order menu. Select the desired sorting method, and then tap Done.
  3. Tap Save to add the new server connection.

Update an account connection

To update an account connection, perform the following steps:

  1. Perform the appropriate action for your device:
    • iOS — Tap Edit. Then, tap the desired server connection name.
    • Android — Tap and hold the desired server connection name. Then, tap Edit in the menu that appears.
  2. Modify the desired settings.
  3. Tap Save (iOS) or the save icon () (Android).

Remove an account connection

To delete an account connection, perform the following steps:

  1. Perform the appropriate action for your device:
    • iOS — Tap Edit. Then, tap the red circle to the left of the desired server connection name.
    • Android — Tap and hold the desired server connection name. Then, tap Delete in the menu that appears.
  2. Tap Delete to confirm the deletion.

Manipulate files

To access the files and folders for an account, tap that account in the list of Web Disk accounts. The contents of the account's Web Disk directory will display.

View a folder's contents

To view the contents of a folder inside the current folder, tap that folder's name. The list of files and folders inside that folder will appear. 

  • At the top of the interface, the breadcrumbs (iOS) or header (Android) will refresh to reflect the current folder.
  • To navigate back to the folder that contains the current folder, tap the folder with two dots at the top of the list.

View a file

To view a file, tap the desired filename in the list of files.

Note:

Some file types may not open within the Web Disk app. 

On iOS devices, you can perform the following actions after you open a file:

  • Tap Download to download the file to your device.

  • Tap the printer icon () to select a printer and then print the file.
  • Tap the magnifying glass icon () to search the file.
  • Tap the share icon () to share the file via other apps on your device.
  • Tap Back to return to the list of files and folders.

On Android devices, you can perform some file actions from within the file view, and some from a menu in the list of files and folders.

  • You can perform the following actions when you view the file:
    • Tap the printer icon () to select a printer and then print the file.
    • Tap the magnifying glass icon () to search the file.
  • Tap and hold the filename in the list of files to perform the following actions:
    • Open URL — Open the file as a URL.
    • Open — Open the file.
    • Send — Share the file via another app.
    • Delete — Delete the file.
    • Rename — Rename the file.
    • Copy — Copy the file.
    • Move — Move the file.
    • Email — Send the file via email.
    • Email link — Send an email that contains a link to the file.
    • Download — Download the file.

Bulk actions

To perform actions on multiple files in a folder, perform the following steps:

  1. Tap the grey check icons () (iOS) or select the checkboxes (Android) next to each file to select the desired files.
  2. For iOS only, tap the green check in the top right corner to access the menu of actions.
  3. Tap one of the following actions to perform it for all of the selected files:
    • iOS users can perform the following bulk actions:
      • Tap Download to download the selected files.
      • Tap Delete Marked Files to delete the selected files.
      • Tap Email Marked Files to send the files as attachments with an email.
      • Tap Select All to select all of the files in the current folder and then perform another action.
      • Tap Unselect All to deselect the selected files.
      • Tap Cancel to dismiss the menu and return to the list of files and folders.
    • Android users can perform the following bulk actions:
      • Tap the download icon () to download the selected files to local storage.

Import files (iOS only)

Tap the cloud icon () to upload files from iCloud or another storage app on your device.

To select a different storage location, tap More

Actions

At the bottom of the list of files and folders, you can perform the following actions:

Create a new folder within the current folder.

After you tap this icon, the app will prompt you for the new folder name. Enter the desired name and tap Create.

Refresh the list of files and folders.

Upload a file from your device to your Web Disk account.

Upload a photo from your device's camera roll.

Take a photo or video with your device's camera and then upload it.

View a slideshow of images in the current folder.

Add and manage in-app bookmarks.

Note:

On Android devices, this icon appears in the top right corner of the app. 

Access the local download folder for the current account.

Tap the information icon () to view the Web Disk app's version information and a documentation link.
