Introduction

This document lists methods that you can use to transfer accounts and configurations between cPanel & WHM servers.

Accounts

Full migration method

If you need to transfer all of the cPanel accounts from one server to a new server as part of a full server migration, please read our How to Move All cPanel Accounts from One Server to Another documentation. This method allows you to migrate a server's accounts and configuration to a newer operating system.

Transfer Tool method

If you need to transfer multiple accounts from one server to another, use WHM's Transfer Tool interface (WHM >> Home >> Transfers >> Transfer Tool). This interface copies multiple accounts from a remote server to your cPanel & WHM server, and it allows you to select multiple configuration options to transfer along with the accounts.

Note:

This method requires that you possess SSH access and root-level privileges through the su or sudo commands on the remote server.

  1. Log in to the destination server's WHM interface.
  2. Navigate to WHM's Transfer Tool interface (WHM >> Home >> Transfers >> Transfer Tool).
  3. Enter the credentials, authentication method, security information, and advanced options to log in to the remote server.
  4. Do not select any options under the Service configurations menu.
  5. Select the desired packages to transfer.
  6. Select the desired accounts and the desired settings for each account from the Account list interface.
  7. Click Copy.

Back up and Restore individually

To transfer individual accounts from one server to another,   create a backup file on the remote server's Backup interface in cPanel (cPanel >> Home >> Files >> Backup). Then, restore it to the local server with WHM's Restore a Full Backup cpmove File interface (WHM >> Home >> Backup >> Restore a Full Backup/cpmove File) interface.

    1. Log in to the desired cPanel account.
    2. Navigate to cPanel's Backup interface (cPanel >> Home >> Files >> Backup).
    3. Enter your email address in the notification text box.
    4. Click Download a Full Web Site Backup.
    5. Select Home Directory.
    6. Click Generate Backup.
    7. Wait for the notification to arrive via email.
    8. Press the F5 key on your keyboard or reload your web browser to refresh the interface.
    9. In the Account Backups menu, select the newly-created backup file to download it to your computer.
    10. After you download the backup file, log in to the destination server's WHM interface.
    11. Navigate to WHM's Restore a Full Backup cpmove File interface (WHM >> Home >> Backup >> Restore a Full Backup/cpmove File).
    12. Select Restore with File.
    13. Select the cpmove file that you downloaded to your computer.
    14. Click Restore.
