(Home >> DNS Functions >> Add an A Entry for Your Hostname)

Overview

An A entry, also known as an A record or an address record, is a part of your server’s DNS zone files. The A entry matches a hostname or domain name with an IP address, which allows other computers to find your server on the Internet.

If a DNS zone for the domain does not already exist, the system will create a new DNS Zone with the full name of this entry.

Important:

We strongly recommend that you first create a parent DNS zone for the domain and then add an A entry to the parent DNS zone for the hostname. To add the parent zone, read our Add a DNS Zone documentation.

Create an A entry

To add an A entry, perform the following steps:

  1. Enter your server’s IP address in the available text box.
  2. Click Add Entry.

Your domain name is now matched with the server's main IP address.
