For cPanel & WHM 11.40

(Home >> DNS Functions >> Add a DNS Zone)

Overview

This feature allows you to set up a DNS zone on your server. A DNS zone is an administrative space or portion of the domain name system. This space is responsible for directing traffic to the correct locations.

Zone files are created from a template. You can edit the templates that WHM uses to create zone files by accessing the Edit Zone Templates feature.

When you add a domain to your server, WHM automatically configures its DNS zone; therefore, the Add a DNS Zone feature is primarily used to add DNS zones for remote domains.

Warning

You should exercise caution when adding a DNS zone, as improperly configured DNS data can prevent a visitor's access to a domain.

Create a DNS zone

To add the DNS zone:

  1. Under Domain Selection, enter the IP address in the Ip field.
  2. Enter the domain name in the Domain field.
  3. Click Add Zone.

Under Account Selection, you may view a list of domains and users who currently reside on your server. To search the list, enter a partial domain or username in the appropriate text box under the Account Search heading. WHM will display options matching your search criteria; click the correct domain or username. The appropriate account will appear under Account Selection.

Remember:

You cannot have multiple DNS zones for a single domain. If an account appears in the Account Selection box, you should not enter that domain into the Domain text box. To make a change to an existing DNS zone, you can use the Edit DNS Zone feature.

If you are experiencing difficulties adding DNS zones, run the following script:

/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/autorepair io_compress_gzip
